The short answer

SASSA pays grants over the first days of each month in a fixed order: older persons grants first, then disability grants, then child support and other grants - a three-day cycle in most months. October 2026 payments fall on 2, 5 and 6 October; November on 3, 4 and 5 November; December on 2, 3 and 4 December. Dates shift to the next business day when the scheduled day falls on a weekend or public holiday. January 2027 dates had not been published at our last review.

SASSA pays grants over the first days of each month, and the order is fixed. Knowing which day your grant lands on removes a great deal of avoidable queueing.

The 2026 cycle

SASSA pays in this order every month:

  1. Older persons grants - the first payment day.
  2. Disability grants - the second payment day.
  3. Child support and other grants - the third payment day.

Where a scheduled day falls on a weekend or a public holiday, it moves to the next business day. That is the only movement - the order never changes.

January dates are published late in the year, so this page records them only when SASSA does. The payment dates category tracks each record with its own source and verification date, and the month-by-month records carry the status so nothing appears as confirmed before it is.

Where the money goes

Three payment methods exist, and the choice affects how a delay looks:

MethodWhat to expect
Bank accountCleared on the payment day, but a weekend or public holiday can push it to the next banking day
Pay pointCash on the day, with long queues - arrive early
ProcuratorNomination made at SASSA; the procurator collects, and the money is yours

An account that is not in the beneficiary’s own name fails verification and holds the payment. That is the most common cause of a grant that simply does not appear, and it is resolved at SASSA rather than at the bank.

The SRD grant runs separately

The Social Relief of Distress grant does not follow the older persons/disability/child support order. It is paid in batches to approved applicants, which is why two people approved on the same day can be paid a fortnight apart. If you are tracking an SRD payment, the SRD status meanings guide explains the wording that tells you whether a payment has been initiated, and the appeals guide covers a declined application.

When a payment does not arrive

The order matters, because most “missing payment” cases are answered by the first two checks:

  1. Confirm on the SASSA system that a payment was issued. If nothing was issued, the problem is on the record, not the bank.
  2. Check the payment method and the account details. An account in the wrong name, or one that has been closed, holds the money.
  3. Ask for the transaction reference if SASSA shows the payment as made. A reference makes the query traceable and is what a bank needs to trace a payment.
  4. Escalate through the official channels - SASSA on 0800 60 10 11, or the nearest office, with the identity document and the reference.

If your question is about a grant you have not yet applied for, or you are unsure which official channel handles it, our grant and benefit information tool maps the question to the right route and the right contact details. It asks for nothing personal - it cannot check a status, and it says so before you select anything.

Checklist

  • Know which day of the cycle your grant is paid on
  • Check the published schedule each month rather than assuming a fixed date
  • Confirm your bank account is in your own name and still open
  • If you collect at a pay point, arrive early - long queues are common
  • Report a missing payment through official channels with your ID number

Frequently asked questions

When are SASSA grants paid each month?Toggle answer

SASSA pays over the first few days of the month in a fixed order: older persons grants first, then disability grants, then child support and other grants. That produces a three-day cycle in most months. The actual dates move to the next business day when a scheduled day falls on a weekend or public holiday.

Why was my grant paid on a different day this month?Toggle answer

Because the schedule rolls forward when a payment day falls on a weekend or public holiday. The order of payments stays the same; the dates shift. Each month’s schedule is published by SASSA, and the pattern is consistent enough that most beneficiaries can predict their date.

Is the SRD grant paid on the same dates?Toggle answer

No. The Social Relief of Distress grant runs on its own cycle, separate from the monthly grant payment run. Approved SRD payments are processed in batches, so the date on which your payment appears depends on the batch your application falls into rather than on the older persons/disability/child support order.

What do I do if my payment does not arrive?Toggle answer

First confirm on the SASSA system that a payment was actually issued - a payment can be blocked by a bank verification failure or by a change in payment method. Then check the payment method: pay point, bank account or procurator. If SASSA shows a payment that never arrived, ask for the transaction reference and raise a query through the official channels.

Can my grant be paid into someone else’s account?Toggle answer

No. Payments must go to an account in the beneficiary’s own name, and accounts that fail verification hold the payment. A procurator can be nominated to collect on your behalf at a pay point where you cannot attend, but the nomination is made at SASSA and does not move the money into the procurator’s own account.

Where do I check my own payment status?Toggle answer

On the SRD portal for SRD grants, and through SASSA’s own channels on 0800 60 10 11 for other grants. This website cannot check a payment and neither can any other private site. Any message asking you to confirm banking details to receive a grant payment is fraud.
