Matric results countdown - when NSC results are released

Count down to the announced National Senior Certificate results release date and see exactly how and where to check your own results officially.

Last reviewed 13 October 2026 · next scheduled review 15 November 2026 · runs entirely in your browser

How to use it

Check whether a date is announced - The tool shows the official date once the DBE has published it.
Note the official channels - Results are available from the DBE online portal, your school, and official results centres.
Read our guide before results day - It explains how to read your results, what a supplementary exam is, and how to apply for a re-mark.

This tool cannot check your results

Nobody can check a matric result here, and we will never ask you for an examination number, an ID number or a password to try. Marks are released through the Department of Basic Education and are published on the official channels below. This page only counts down to the dates the DBE has announced.

Results release

Date not yet announced

Date deliberately left null. The 'every 15 minutes' matric fetcher exists specifically to catch this announcement and open a pull request the moment DBE publishes it. Publishing an unverified date would be worse than publishing none.

Re-mark and re-check window (expected)

Date not yet announced

Expected window, not an announced date. Each provincial education department sets and publishes its own re-mark and re-check dates after results are released, so no national date can be published until those notices appear.

What you can do now, without your exam number

Diarise the release date once the DBE announces it - we update this page the same day.
Read the meaning of the endorsement codes before results day, so the transcript makes sense immediately.
Check the re-mark and re-check window and the fees in advance: it is short, and it costs money.
Confirm your university or college application deadlines - most close independently of results day.

Ask a parent, guardian or teacher if you need someone to help you check. Do not send your ID number or examination number to anyone who offers to "check for you" on social media.

When the Department of Basic Education has announced a results release date, this tool counts down to it. Until a date is announced, it says so rather than guessing, and explains the official channels for checking your results.

Nobody can check a matric result for you

Results are released by the Department of Basic Education and delivered through the channels it designates - schools, provincial education departments and the official online result service. No independent website has access to the marking system, and any site promising to reveal a result in advance is either guessing or phishing.

Find SA Status does not ask for, accept or store examination numbers, identity numbers or passwords. If someone contacts you claiming to have your result or offering to alter a mark for a fee, that is fraud and should be reported to the police and the department.

How results release actually works

Marking, moderation and the standardisation of results take several weeks after the final paper. The minister announces the release date and the national pass rate; individual results follow through the official channels, usually in the second half of January for the November examinations.

Because the release date is announced rather than fixed by statute, this page carries the date only once the department has published it. Until then it says so plainly rather than estimating.

The re-mark and re-check window is short

A candidate who believes a mark is wrong can apply for a re-mark, a re-check or, in some subjects, a viewing of the script. The window opens after results are released and closes within weeks, and a fee applies per paper. Provincial education departments publish the exact dates and the fee schedule.

Decide in advance which papers you would query and what it would cost. Applications submitted in the last day of the window are accepted, but there is no room to correct a mistake in the application form.

How this fits into the rest of the site

A calculator answers "what number", but the decision behind it is usually about a date and an official process. If you are checking whether a deadline has passed, the Important Dates Centre carries the published dates with their sources. If you are checking a government status, no calculator can help you and no website outside government can either - the relevant official link is listed at the bottom of this page.

We do not claim to be a government service and this tool has no official standing. It is an independent estimate published for planning, with its sources named so you can check every figure against the body that actually decides it.

Frequently asked questions

When are matric results released?

The Department of Basic Education announces the release date each year, normally in January. For the class of 2025 the Minister announced the national results on 12 January 2026 and candidates could access their own from 06:00 on 13 January 2026. Until the DBE announces a date for the current year, no reliable date exists.

How do I check my matric results?

Through the Department of Basic Education's official online results portal, or from your school or examination centre. You will need your examination number. You should never need to give your ID number to a third-party website.

What is a supplementary exam?

A supplementary examination gives a candidate who did not meet the requirements a second opportunity, subject to the conditions the Department of Basic Education sets for each examination cycle.
