Bursary vs NSFAS funding

A bursary is funding offered by a company, trust, university, government programme or other provider under that provider’s conditions. NSFAS is a public student financial aid scheme for eligible students and approved programmes under its rules. The funding terms, covered costs and obligations can differ substantially.

Which should you choose?

Check your institution, course and eligibility first. Read whether the bursary is repayable, whether it includes a work-back obligation and which expenses it covers. For NSFAS, follow the current official application and appeal instructions.
